Ever Feel Unsettled? If So . . . You May Relate

Dear TSJ Friends, I hope this finds you in a good space and healthy and you enjoy today’s stories. Each week brings its own challenges and life experiences for you, as well as us at TSJ. Muse Solomon likes to get us to review those experiences (stories) for nuggets of wit and/or wisdom to share.  So let’s get started. DO YOU EVER FEEL UNSETTLED? What comes to your mind? Muse Solomon asked me what this week has been like and I admitted I have felt unsettled. MY TRIP TO THE HOSPITAL  And Its Unsettling Experiences On November 30th at 5:30 am

From Resistance to Receptivity and Fear to Faith

Dear TSJ Friends, Our muse Solomon and I hope this finds you healthy and adjusting bit by bit to our new normal of “social distancing.” After fussing a bit as to whether I should share something personal when so many people are suffering I have decided to share one incident with you from our recent cruise experience that has helped me at this time. Almost every night since returning from our Caribbean cruise I have dreamt about some obscure problem on the ship, and some of the dreams have been in vivid colors. These colors indicate the intense emotions I

A Message to Mom

Hello TSJ peeps!  Happy WW day! “Sir Solomon” and little SJ are in their WW spots.  Yes, Tom remembered today is their day to get some attention and to remind us all to live wisely and playfully as much as possible. Especially on Mother’s Day weekend! Since today is my mother’s birthday and Sunday is Mother’s Day, I thought our WW could be a mom type reflection. The only way to write about mom is to be personal.  Moms, after all, are just as different from one another as we are.  We do not all have “Hallmark” stories!  Many

Births Are Life Changers

Hi TSJ Peeps! It is time for our WW.  For new readers, I wish to remind you that my aim is to take everyday events and use them as object lessons or analogies for the less visible and often overlooked ways of seeing with our hearts. Solomon and Solomon Jr. help me keep it earthy and practical and I work to make it meaningful on a spiritual/emotional level too! This week I have been noticing how often one letter on a word gives birth to a whole new way of seeing and being in the moment.  And words are symbols,

I Know that I do Not Know….

Hello TSJ Peeps! I know many of you who are teachers and married to teachers are on vacation this week. May it be a time of peace and harmony wherever you are and may it restore your souls! Here at TSJ, we are getting caught up on “stuff” as Tom is on vacation.  He is out getting his hair trimmed and the oil changed while I am here writing this post.  But, I must tell you, Tom gave “the boys a talking to” (as he put it) early this morning as he snuck into my office and changed Solmon and

A Bird, A Cat, An Observation

It is Wednesday Wisdom day at The Shared Journey.  Story time! And today we are looking at another aspect of our walk on earth as parents, grandparents, or just plain children of the universe here at TSJ. What inspired this sharing…besides the cancer journey with Tom was…a bird and a black cat! As Tom and I are facing various detours in our personal design for our lives, due to what Tom calls “a shortened runway with some potholes,” I feel like it is time for me to share more openly about my belief that not only do we share our

Beyond Words

” Faith makes things possible….not easy.” This saying on our mantle has come alive of late! When your heart breaks for your children, how do you put that into words?   There simply are no words sufficient for this task. When you feel deep stirrings in your soul for the conditions of our world, both locally and beyond, how do you describe the angst and worry it creates?   There are no words for the depth and complexity of the human condition that creates so much turmoil. When you are confronted with so many tough and often daily challenges that render you feeling

You + Me . . . Makes “We”

Solomon’s message this morning is very simple. You plus me makes we. As you can see he is having a father-son talk with our newest addition to The Shared Journey, SJ (Solomon Junior). Such a simple phrase. Yet, unspeakably profound. What is parenting?  Parenting (as has often been said) is not about what we do.       It is about who we are in the here and now of  life.  That is why we must practice self-awareness and seek wisdom at every stage of the way.      Parenting is all about relationship. That is the sacred “we.” This is

Ever Want to Quit?

Do you ever “wanna quit?”  I mean really want to run away and hide in a cave somewhere?  Elijah did.  More about him in a minute. Sometimes we all do.  Today’s wisdom is not as whimsical as sometimes. But I believe there is hope, depth, and beauty in the contrast caused by shadows in the pastures of our lives. Lately, I have felt like quitting.  I suffer from a chronic dis-ease of the mind I call “the comparison disease”  Comparing myself with others leaves me feeling bleak. fearful, and powerless. And before you quickly get annoyed with me, may I

Running Low ? Refuel and Renew!

It has been a difficult winter. Fuel, salt, and people’s energies are running low. Many of us are needing to refuel and renew our inner resources. We may be like the salt shaker…. running low, but not empty. Now is the time to take heed. Since the news media has been announcing concerns about dwindling salt supplies which could create dangerous driving if the snow, ice and cold continues, I have been thinking about salt. And until I did a short Google search, I never knew there were so many uses for salt!  Apparently there are over 14,000 uses for salt. Everybody
