The Shared Journey

Cloudy or Clear?

Dear TSJ Peeps and Faithful Readers,

It is already Wednesday again and time for our inner wizard to dig deep for some up-to-date and practical wisdom to help us through our week!   Solomon is our voice so when I left our TSJ headquarters this morning with my computer in hand, Solomon cleared his throat loudly.  It is, after all, his day.

Mr. John and I needed to leave to do some work at his place while the TSJ headquarters is being worked on.  The basement is being partially finished, and the contractors are at the sanding and painting point. It is best to take advantage of this time to work on cleaning out of John’s home on the lake. So while he works on sorting, I am writing our WW with a lake view!

But Solomon had something to say about me writing a blog without him.  So  I stopped and assured him that I would listen, take notes and follow his wishes as to what I share today. That is why you have this picture.  But I admit I seem be having trouble figuring out how to share the picture and the notebook that I depend on to guide me is back at TSJ headquarters. So the format is less than desirable.  I apologize.  I am practicing progress and not perfection in writing these blogs!

You see, Solomon suggested I take a picture our cloudy window in the office where he sits each day. He has been thinking it reminds him that we human peeps sometimes put up with cloudy thinking like he does this window.

Admittedly, that nudged me to begin wondering what clouds the windows of my heart and soul?  Or other peeps?  What caused the office window to be cloudy?  After all it is new.

I know it has something to do with expansion and contraction from the heat of the sun and the cool of the night.  Apparently its seal has been damaged due to pressure factors that let air out and unwanted moisture or condensation in. Left unrepared it will get worse.

Hmm, I pondered.  Pressures …  heat … leaks … unwanted moisture . . . foggy window. I wonder if Solomon was onto something.

So just what causes me to lack clarity from time to time?  Or to collect unwanted thoughts and feelings that  leave me gloomy, anxious and/ or negative? How about you?

Even if I cannot fully explain what caused the cloudiness of my window in scientific terms, it is still cloudy.  (Please feel free to look it up on the Internet if you need quality explanations.)

All I really know for sure is I don’t like looking out a cloudy window and it needs repair by an expert. An experienced person will know what caused it and how to repair it.

Fortunately for me it is under warranty.

The other thing Solomon wanted me to notice is that it is a good thing the window next to it is clear because it is easy for  us  to get used to cloudy if that is all we look through everyday.  We won’t even notice it is getting worse until it is considerably worse!

We grow accustomed to things being a certain way. The clear window is a reminder of what is right.

Since this is the season of Lent and much reflection, I could see a spiritual application to what Solomon was pointing out.

I believe deeply that that the Chief Shepherd sees us inside and out, understands our nature and  knows how to fix it.   He knows the pressures we are under that cause cracks in our consciences.  He sees what clouds our vision.  We need repair, forgiveness and renewal from time to time.

The great news is that we too are under warranty!

As a Christian, I believe the Love of God covers the cost of our human flaws.

We just need to call the Expert Shepherd of shepherds and admit we are tired of looking through clouded minds and hearts. And we admit it is not just the large “sins” we see so easily in our world that collect there but our own “stuff” which collects like droplets of concentrated water in-between the window glass.  Our hearts and minds get cloudy and we often feel and act edgy or unkind.

So… remember if you are looking at life as through a cloudy window, just stop, call the Shepherd of your soul for help and be glad your mistakes have been covered with Love.  Clarity will come and the joy of vision and hope will return!

Please play in the pastures this week and remember your heart desires to be better tomorrow than you are today and that desire is a gift from God. It is the clear window of Love to draw us to Him.
