The Shared Journey

Quick Fix?

Happy Wednesday, dear TSJ Peeps!

Today when Mr. John and I decided to take our Wednesday morning walk uptown for breakfast, we said good bye to our imaginary team – Solomon and SJ and Sigmund.

They apparently had a conference while we were gone because I went with a few ideas to share with you but when we came back, Solomon had a completely different idea.  He wants me to practice focusing on one idea  only.   To help me do so, he suggested I simply tell you what we saw on our walk and what it stirred up in me.

So what did we see?  As we passed Dunkin’ Donuts we saw a long line of cars waiting their turn at the drive through window.  People were waiting for their morning fix.  Likely coffee or coffee and a sweet something. And they were ordering up a quick fix.

When we returned, Solomon suggested today’s focus should be on our tendency to want quick fixes in life.

It is A “Peep Problem,” in our country he said to want too many choices and be consumed by our insatiable desires.  He reminded me that even too many good ideas in one blog can create mental clutter, and confusion.  So, knowing my weakness for wanting to graze from a buffet of ideas,  he encouraged me to keep it short and simple today.  “Focus on your desire for quick fixes.”

“Yipes,” I argue, “but I like a buffet of ideas.”

He settled back on the couch and said, “Glad you said it yourself, Ms. Margie. We notice you like lots of options and instant results –  very much like a drive-through cup of morning coffee.”

It is hard for you peeps to take time to chew on one lesson, ponder one message from your Shepherd’s infinite store of wisdom. You need to take one sip at a time from His cup of Living Water.

Instead, You like to gulp and run.

And, Ms. Margie, you human peeps resist repetion of simple truth because it is so familiar you think you know it already. Familiarity breeds superficiality and loss of curiosity. which seems to  lead to seeking quick fixes for mind, body and soul.

Quick fixes are not lasting fixes.

Lent is a great time of year to remember what is satisfying to the soul.

It is a time to ponder who you are and who God is.

God made you.  You did not make God. And such great pure love cannot be absorbed in a spiritual drive through window or by gulping down a cup miracles.

Take time to sit down and chew on a meal of His Love and sip from the cup of His Living Water.  Solomon says the rewards will be much greater than the sacrifice of time and energy. Of course you can do both – and.  For example, you can both  experience the quick boost from a drive- through window or read a quick blog and take time to ponder God’s Word and the gift of His forever Love for us.
