Things That Last

Good Morning, TSJ “Peeps,” Since Father’s Day is Sunday, our TSJ wise old Solomon has been brought to a chair right next to me to inspire us to think straight about important things.  Like what really matters.  What lasts a lifetime and beyond. Since Tom has gone to greener pastures my perspective on lots of things has changed and keeps on doing so.  Part of it, I believe, is the aging process.  I know I am not alone in this, but one of my worst fears for my life was the possibility of him changing scenery before I did. I knew it

Just Because You Cannot See It …

Dear TSJ Peeps, Do you ever find yourself thinking about things you cannot see but they sure are real to you? I find myself thinking all the time about things I cannot see nor understand. That means I spend time thinking about the interior world of us humans. You know – things like our psyches, spirits, emotions, beliefs, experiences, perceptions, heartaches, suffering, joys and hopes etc. It also means I think about people I can no longer see on “the other sided.”   And it means I sometimes cling to memories and things they left behind.  That includes pictures, favored objects, clothing,

Safe and Free

Greetings TSJ Friends, What two things do we humans desire a whole lot?  I think it may be safety and freedom.  This is true both on the physical plane and the emotional and spiritual plane! And both safety and freedom are generated by love. This is the essence of today’s Wednesday Wisdom…the kind of “wisdom” that is ever earthy and always evolving here at TSJ headquarters. Today Solomon Junior (SJ) is listening to Solomon telling him about the inherent value in having certain necessary restrictions from time to time to provide safety for exploring his world.  So Solomon was very grateful I came home yesterday

Looking Back and Moving Forward

Dear TSJ Peeps… What a week!  Do you ever have those weeks when so many things happen that you are sure it was two weeks ago that such and such  happened and it was just two days ago?  Some weeks get that full, don’t they?  And sometimes they seem packed because of so many passing feelings that accompany different events and experiences. And feelings can take up a lot of space somehow and either cause us to become immobilized or propel us into action and soar. . .  and everything in between. For me (and several of you) this week has been packed

Learning to Wonder as we Wander

Good Morning TSJ Encouragers and Sojourners, Today I feel like I have more wonder than wisdom. Yes, it is Wednesday….another week in which we have all experienced a lot of life . For me, I am left wondering what it would be like to truly be wise in such a complex world of choice and brokenness. At the same time, I think wonder and wisdom do go together.  People who never wonder do not feel the awe of life’s mysteries and/or unanswered questions.  They likely lack curiosity and the confidence to take risks. But you are not like that at TSJ.  You are

I Quit

Dear TSJ Peeps . . . Have you ever said out loud with full force (even if no one is around to hear you), “I quit. I cannot do this anymore!” I am sure most of you have.  Perhaps many times under different circumstances. It usually is a sign of utter fatigue and exasperation. On my way home last evening from a committee meeting, I found myself rehearsing conversations, actions, and thoughts that seemed to point to those nagging inner “voices” (thoughts)  of self- recrimination. It seems these thoughts had been silently percolating all day in the unconscious corners of

Need a Rescue?

Good Morning TSJ  Readers! Stop to think about this.  Do you need to be rescued right now?  Or have you known a time you desperately needed rescuing? My guess is if you are reading this letter blog you are willing to nod a yes even if you are in a great space this morning.  I truly hope all of you are supremely happy, safe, secure, excited about being alive, feel fulfilled and content with no worries about saying or doing anything wrong.  Okay.  Now I have gone too far. No one really lives in utopia. Camelot does not hold up under

Shifting Sands on the Shore

Greetings TSJ Friends and Fans, Have you ever built a castle or creature in the sand while on the beach only to have it washed away or kicked over before you got to show it off? Have you ever had one of those days when you woke up feeling blah for no apparent reason?  Have you ever noticed that in a given hour your mental attitude can shift notably from either negative to positive – or worse – from positive to negative?  Does it often feel irrational because,  after all, it was one little statement from someone or a passing look that sent

Are You Rested?

Good Morning, TSJ Friends and Subscribers! How would you describe what you feel like when you feel rested? Has it been awhile? If you take time to rest your body, mind, and spirit does it feel like you are robbing others or letting people down? Sometimes we lose track of our own selves in the demands of daily living. And we lose sleep. We cheat ourselves out of one of God’s most natural blessings! This week’s midweek blog post is being published a day late.  Some days in our lives seem like smooth sailing, others have ripples or even waves in them.

What Are Horizons?

Good Morning, TSJ Seekers of Wisdom ! I overheard Solomon and SJ chatting together this morning .  They have been missing Tom’s Wednesday morning pat on the head and I have been careless about it. Truthfully, I have missed that ritual too since he has been in his heavenly home. But today I remembered and sat them  in front of the window so they could look out and see “The bench” and beyond. Before long I heard a discussion going on between senior and wizened Solomon and curious Solomon Junior (SJ). SJ asked Solomon, “What is a horizon? I have
