The Shared Journey

From Resistance to Receptivity and Fear to Faith

Dear TSJ Friends, Our muse Solomon and I hope this finds you healthy and adjusting bit by bit to our new normal of “social distancing.” After fussing a bit as to whether I should share something personal when so many people are suffering I have decided to share one incident with you from our recent cruise experience that has helped me at this time. Almost every night since returning from our Caribbean cruise I have dreamt about some obscure problem on the ship, and some of the dreams have been in vivid colors. These colors indicate the intense emotions I

Three Rs For Refreshing Our Spirit

Happy Wednesday TSJ Friends,  Today’s post is a simple summary and reminder of some basics of human learning and development of mind, body and heart/soul.   We all know that the basics of our education are the three rs:  reading, writing, arithmetic.  They are foundational to our whole educational system! And look at what we can do because of those basic skill sets!  But today I am focusing on two other sets of three.   First:  the three basic components of building and growing relationships – from the womb to the grave. We are created for relationship.  According to Martin

Having an “L”-Of-A Day?

Dear TSJ Friends,  I wonder . . . are you having an L-of-a-day?” Solomon and I hope so!   And we hope your eyebrows are raised and there is a quizzical grin on your face asking yourselves, “What the dickens are they talking about?”   You see, Solomon and I have been having some fun here at headquarters.  Together he and I and Mr. John are discovering that each day brings with it numerous opportunities for loving, learning, laughing, listening and living full out!  We believe with all those L’s we also gain experiences that lead us to wisdom!  As you

Ever Need a Re-Boot?

Dear TSJ Friends, I have recently had to reboot my phone and my computer when it freezes up and breathed a sigh of relief when it worked! It makes me think about the value of re-booting our spirits.  What do you do to reboot your mood when on overload? I am sure many of you remember a few years ago when I was all excited and happy about getting rubber boots as I had wanted them for a long time. I liked how I felt in them and even splashed around in mud puddles just for the joy of it.

Why Stories and Memories?

Happy Wednesday Dear TSJ Friends, I am re-learning about the usefulness and power of story.  You may ask, “why?”   Stories are valuable as teaching and learning tools.  because stories can be repeated and we hear them differently each time – from different ages and stages of life’s journey. Last week I introduced a possible  “Then and Now” series of stories … and started with Mom’s Tattered Dresses.   Today, however, I have a story with a fun task I learned in grad school that I encourage you to try. You may be able to see for yourself how our earliest memories can foreshadow our

Love is Not Fluffy

Dear TSJ Friends,.  I like to teach and write about topics related to love, grace and growth. Yet I end up “freezing” when I try to do so. Can you relate to that feeling? Certain little voices come out and whisper in my ear filling me with cautions such as “It doesn’t seem like a very intellectually robust  topic” or “What could I possibly share that hasn’t already been said?” Do you have negative voices that hold you back from your best work? But at Christmas time my sister gave me a book by Bob Goff,  Live in Grace – Walk

Fueled by Faith ~ Growing in Love, Grace and Wisdom

Happy New Year to TSJ Faithful Friends! Like most people these days, on New Years I ponder setting new goals and outlining specific changes I would like to make. But I notice as I age that I am drawn to goals around spiritual growth and soulful changes.  Ultimately  matters of heart and soul are the fuel for personal growth and lasting change. We often dig deep for answers when we go through more troubled times. As with so man people around the world, it is in such times that I have discovered the strength to keep going. And I have

Precious Scrap

(Click on the green header for easier reading on mobile phones.)  Greetings TSJ Friends, Just for fun . . . .When you hear the word “scrap” what do you think of?  Do you equate it with waste? Or with potential? I grew up on a farm and I remember well that our dad had a “scrap pile” behind the barn. From an aesthetic point of view, the farm scrap pile was more like scrap without the s and I sure did not think of it as a “potential.”  It looked like junk to me. Until . . .  the day it

When the Lights Go Out

(For easier reading please click on the green header when on your mobile devices .)  Dear TSJ Friends, What do you do when you lose power and the lights go out after dark? What are your first thoughts and feelings? A loss of power may be from an electrical overload that trips a circuit breaker to fallen power lines due to storms or accidents. Either way, lights suddenly going out are disorienting.  Especially in the dark. We don’t like feeling disoriented, insecure, uncertain. I was reminded of this on Thanksgiving Eve. We were with my sister’s family and had just

Motivation and Momentum

Happy Wednesday, Dear TSJ Friends! Today Solomon and I are peeking in to your emails to chat about simple ideas and facts about us humans that may entice you or motivate you to do things that linger on your  “I should” list of things to do. I mean the things that would not take much time and they are not awful (like cleaning out a garage or basement might be) but that are more easily doable. Remember, I am on a “doable” kick to think small and start with small steps because that can lead to discovering the power of
