The Shared Journey

Remembering . . .

It is that time of year when school kids and their teachers look forward to at least a long Easter weekend.  Some have several days off.  In the joy of anticipation, it seems a little difficult to write about anything real serious.

Yet, it is the time of year for many of us to celebrate Passover and Easter.  As a culture, we find it difficult to think for long about how deeply they symbolize that uncomfortable alchemy of life that brings sadness and lament along with praise and thanksgiving.

Soul work truly is a process of dying and being reborn.

In our part of the country, the spring season makes it easier for us to remember. It becomes clear once again, that what has been sprouting in the deep soil is simply in process. It is waiting to explode with, or gradually express the beauty it was assigned as a seed.  It has not happened overnight, even though it seems as overnight as the Easter bunny.

So, just for today, let’s practice allowing ourselves to face the things life has brought (or is bringing) our way that we wish to avoid with the deep remembering that from the soil of the soul, new life is being created within us.

Having the gift of hindsight as we celebrate our religious heritage helps, because we know it brought Love, Light, and Life along with rebirth and renewal.

Remember the truth that unless the seed gets planted in the ground and goes through a death experience, it will not become the life it was intended to be.  It is a process.

I read a quote this morning that I really like.

“Life bestows its gifts, a drop at a time, if we can stay open to the mysterious flow that is larger than one event.”  Mark Nepo

That flow includes the work of soul, the surrendering process that precedes the birthing of new life.

Solomon gives his very wise smile of approval and his most happy wishes for a great time with family and friends even if it calls for soul work too.  It is all good.
