The Shared Journey

Is There an App for That?

Hello TSJ Peeps and Visitors passing through . . .

Wednesdays seem to arrive fast each week and so many things happen in a week that provides food for thought and learning!  It gives us time to push the pause button and share our human journey.    I wonder how things are with you as summer is quickly moving along!

Solomon and SJ at The Shared JourneyIf you are new, please let me say the purpose of this Wednesday blog is to provide a wisdom snack so-to-speak to refresh our minds and hearts midweek. Be warned that I make generous use of symbolism, imagination and metaphor – through Solomon and SJ. Relax, reflect and enjoy!

Today”s Story:

How many times a week do you use an App on your smart phone?  I often ask people, “How do you do that?  Or how did you get that information so quickly?” And so often I hear, “Oh, do you have such and such an app?” Then my next question (after I say “no”) is. . .  “Is it free?”

I am in the last few weeks’ flurry of details as I prepare for house closing, a movie to a temporary place while I wait and watch as our new TSJ headquarters (aka our new home) is being built. By “our” I mean mine and all the people who will share stories around the table or in the TSJ office and find renewal for our journeys.

And in spirit I know Tom will be there too.  It is a place he and I searched for together and he felt would be good for me.

Meanwhile, as I faced the finality of moving I began to feel a return of what I have called “the great sadness.”

Then I had an experience for which I have no words.

I went to a piano store to seek help selling my piano. That is when it happened. . . one of those fleeting moments we all have at some time in our lives. When I entered the store there was no one in the front and what greeted me were several exquisitely beautiful and magnificent grand pianos.

Suddenly the great sadness dissolved into a Great Presence. Still. Grand. Majestic. Sacred. Peace filled.  Live silence…not dead silence. Tears flowed.

When Ann came from the back to help me she understood and we transitioned into a practical but thoughtful space.

Those pianos are instruments waiting to played and heard.

As are we.  We are instruments made by the Master Creator waiting to bring forth love and goodness in our days. And with practice and patience and guidance we can participate in making music fit for the heavens.

Is There an App for peace and hope?

That brief encounter with something Grand became like an app for my heart and mind.  On a smart phone we slide easily from one screen to another. Then we tap on what we want to access.

Since then, each time the great sadness returns I have slid the screen of my mind to that moment with the grand pianos and traded the great sadness for The Great Presence.

I am practicing the art of discerning the Shepherd’s Presence in my daily life (usually on a much smaller scale than this particular event!)

That moment cannot be repeated. Those pianos on that day in that moment were used as the instruments they are in an unconventional way to bring back music in my heart and soul.

Solomon is celebrating my experience and says it is similar to some of yours. He has encouraged SJ to listen carefully. Oh.. he nudged me to answer your questions…

No, I did not buy a grand piano but I did work out a trade of my piano to buy a Roland digital piano. It waits to move into TSJ headquarters when built!  Movers took our piano yesterday.

I suspect, we are unaware of many unseen apps we can tap to enrich our lives. Don’t you? Remember unseen does not mean non existent! You don’t see electrical energy either.  Maybe we need an app to replace worry, fear, stress etc.

For now…. let’s go be instruments of peace, love and hope while we play in the pastures of life today!

Margie and Solomon
