A Good Day!

Dear TSJ Friends, Sometimes a thing is just a thing.  Like a duck is just a duck.  Or an advertisement is just an Ad. Other times a thing is more than a “thing.”  More than just an object.  It is a message.   For example, today as we were out running errands a business van drove alongside us at the stoplight.  I looked up only to see this large business van had a saying sprawled across the entire side.  You couldn’t miss it.  I mean . . . it was painted in very large letters!  (Although, now that I say

Love is Not Fluffy

Dear TSJ Friends,.  I like to teach and write about topics related to love, grace and growth. Yet I end up “freezing” when I try to do so. Can you relate to that feeling? Certain little voices come out and whisper in my ear filling me with cautions such as “It doesn’t seem like a very intellectually robust  topic” or “What could I possibly share that hasn’t already been said?” Do you have negative voices that hold you back from your best work? But at Christmas time my sister gave me a book by Bob Goff,  Live in Grace – Walk

Fueled by Faith ~ Growing in Love, Grace and Wisdom

Happy New Year to TSJ Faithful Friends! Like most people these days, on New Years I ponder setting new goals and outlining specific changes I would like to make. But I notice as I age that I am drawn to goals around spiritual growth and soulful changes.  Ultimately  matters of heart and soul are the fuel for personal growth and lasting change. We often dig deep for answers when we go through more troubled times. As with so man people around the world, it is in such times that I have discovered the strength to keep going. And I have

Precious Scrap

(Click on the green header for easier reading on mobile phones.)  Greetings TSJ Friends, Just for fun . . . .When you hear the word “scrap” what do you think of?  Do you equate it with waste? Or with potential? I grew up on a farm and I remember well that our dad had a “scrap pile” behind the barn. From an aesthetic point of view, the farm scrap pile was more like scrap without the s and I sure did not think of it as a “potential.”  It looked like junk to me. Until . . .  the day it

When the Lights Go Out

(For easier reading please click on the green header when on your mobile devices .)  Dear TSJ Friends, What do you do when you lose power and the lights go out after dark? What are your first thoughts and feelings? A loss of power may be from an electrical overload that trips a circuit breaker to fallen power lines due to storms or accidents. Either way, lights suddenly going out are disorienting.  Especially in the dark. We don’t like feeling disoriented, insecure, uncertain. I was reminded of this on Thanksgiving Eve. We were with my sister’s family and had just

Motivation and Momentum

Happy Wednesday, Dear TSJ Friends! Today Solomon and I are peeking in to your emails to chat about simple ideas and facts about us humans that may entice you or motivate you to do things that linger on your  “I should” list of things to do. I mean the things that would not take much time and they are not awful (like cleaning out a garage or basement might be) but that are more easily doable. Remember, I am on a “doable” kick to think small and start with small steps because that can lead to discovering the power of

Who Told You That….?

Hello TSJ Wisdom Seekers, Have I told you how much I appreciate you taking some time – when you can – to read our Wednesday Wisdom blog? Thank you so very much for your emails and texts this week. They are appreciated and never taken for granted. How we must encourage one another! Time is precious to all of us these days. So I am deeply grateful for the time you call or write emails and share your stories. I pray each week for you to find a nugget of wisdom or a bit of hope. Today’s Story: A few

The Value of “Tiny Changes!”

Dear TSJ Friends, I hope this Wednesday finds you well. I have missed these Wednesday check-ins and now I hardly know where to start. The most honest thing I can share is I have needed to give attention to my own inner conflicts and discouragements. While I have been taking a self-imposed sabbatical, hearing encouragement and compassion from some of you has meant a lot to me. But I have been embarrassingly stuck in feelings of inadequacy. Thankfully, the result is good and I am reminded that most of us primarily change when we get uncomfortable enough to want

Unstoppable Love

Dear TSJ Friends and Family, I know… I am off a day.  You usually hear from me on Wednesdays – our day for a bit of wisdom from the three muses here at The Shared Journey (TSJ) headquarters.  But today I cannot resist writing to you even though it is Thursday. It all started this morning when I was in my chair for meditation and glanced across the room where Solomon’s bright eyes shown in the light .. Sadly, this picture does not capture the brightness of Solomon’s eyes or the “team” of muses very clearly.  But you can get

Do Unto Yourself as You Do for Others

Dear TSJ Friends, I know you are all familiar with “The Golden Rule” which of course is the accurate perspective for us to live out our days. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” But I had a quirky thought about that. What if I turned that around a bit?  What might that mean for our TSJ community? I hoped it would give us a moment to pause.  To take the familiar and play with it. And I hoped it might get your attention. When you think about applying some of the gold in the “golden
