Seriously, Does it Have to be so Hard?

Happy Wednesday, TSJ Friends, Boy does Solomon have lots of work on his hands these days for all of us. Do you ever shake your head or even cry out, “Does life have to be this hard? Seriously?!!…..” Well, the answer may be “yes” (because it really is hard) or it may be … “it all depends” (because there may be personal challenges of attitude or misperception ). Or it may be both. At some point for all of us, life is quite simply challenging and we often feel stuck. Read novels, old memoirs or even the scripture stories and it is clear life has always been

Time to Remember

Good Morning Peeps . . . This week it is time to remember. I invite you to grab a cup of your favorite beverage and share a time of honest reflection with me. Many of you are in the season of Lent and many of you are suffering loss either personally or with those you love. Together we can share and encourage one another in life’s mysteries and messes. The skies are gray with no sign of the beautiful and brilliant sun that would blind our eyes if we fully looked into it. The gloom of the day matches the

The Thank – You Switch

Hello TSJ Readers! Solomon has once again awakened the muse in me this morning. What is there about that grin of his that gives me such simple pleasure and inspiration- often an aha that sheds a beam of light on what needs to be noticed? It works a bit like sunlight that dances across the room and reveals something that needs cleaning that looked perfectly fine one minute before! A beam of light reveals our dust bunnies. I know. I digress.  And I do that easily.  Which is what today’s WW (Wednesday Wisdom) is about. I seem to be increasingly aware of how difficult

The Junk Drawer Syndrome

Dear TSJ peeps, Fair Warning: Solomon wants me to warn you to get ready for an honest blog.   It is about learning in our most difficult messes. And we humans can be messy creatures inside. We all need help learning and relearning to be grateful for who we are created to be or who we are at the core. But sometimes we have to dig through a lot of past lies and misplaced beliefs, judgments and assumptions to find the treasure within- where God waits to give us joy and pure love. Solomon says that we all have the vulnerable,

Making Friends

Dear TSJ Peeps, Solomon came to my rescue this morning, like a friend. And I am not ashamed to say so. As many of you know, I have struggled with public opinion about me and this stuffed sheep. But no more. I am making friends with myself these days. And I want to encourage you to do the same. But for many of us this is no easy task and for others it sounds ridiculous. I have been thinking a lot about the concept of friends lately. Rather new for me is the idea of making friends with myself. And

From Tears to Rainbows

Hello TSJ Peeps! Most of us do not like to cry.  Some of us rarely do it and some almost cannot cry. But tears are important! Today’s first story came to mind the other day when I was writing an email to a friend reminding them that tears are a gift and after the storm is past, they can turn into personal rainbows. And as I often do, I asked, “If your tears could talk, what would they say?” As happens these days in the second year of missing Tom, writing that email stirred up a priceless memory of him. I have often heard

Why Do I Know Better and Not Do Better?

Happy Wednesday, TSJ Peeps! Do you ever ask yourself the question about why you say, do, or think things that you do  not approve of in general or don’t like about yourself when you do them? Sometimes it is things that need to change for the sake of others’ well being, but perhaps even more frequently it is something we really want to change so we feel better, healthier and happier! Yet self-sabbotage seems to be the name of our inner game. I honestly think this question is as old as humanity.  And there are many ways to look at this.

Ashes

Good Morning TSJ Peeps, The Boys  are having quite the conversation this morning. As you can see, they have taken their new perch at the window for a Wednesday morning piece of wisdom.  Solomon is doing his best to answer SJ’s never ending questions. Today SJ is all concerned about why some people are going around with smudges on their foreheads. After all, he has been taught to wash smudges off his face.  So he talks to his great…great…great…grandpa about his concerns and confusion. SJ:  “Why is Ms. Margie using ashes as her object lesson for the day?” Solomon: “Because ashes are not just

The Path

Hello TSJ Friends, On this rather windy and gray morning it seems that Solomon and SJ decided to sit on the little table I use for journaling. SJ is asking all kinds of questions about Ms. Margie’s fondness for  “The Bench.”   SJ cannot see the bench and is frustrated with that. I get that frustration, don’t you? I want to “see” or believe lots of things that  are supposedly possible but feel unreachable or unseeable!  But Solomon says, “SJ, to get to the bench you have to follow the path you are looking at ….it is not as far as

The Bench

Greetings from our new TSJ headquarters! Yes, we (“the Boys,” Lovey the lamb and I) are more settled in than last week.  I am definitely able to find many more things even if I do circle the room a couple of times. The next big unpacking projects are my books- about 15 boxes of them! I look at the boxes and ponder in awe of the hours and hours of people’s research, self-discipline, courage, and knowledge they represent. On the one hand a book is an object. On the other it represents so much more to the reader. I am excited to
